Common tools employed for fiber optic testing!

If you have a look at things around you then you will see that fiber optic technology surrounds us everywhere. From electronic equipment to our modern day fast-end communication tools, everything uses these amazing optical fibres.
One of the most important aspects is testing which is related to fiber optic testing devices. To make sure that these tools are running steadfastly, you need to perform regular check-ups and inspections. There are various tools available in the market that you can purchase to complete an inspection kit for the task, or you can even buy these modern day automated kits (which are a much costlier option).

Below mentioned are some of the most common tools that can help in the task of inspection of optical fibres –
  1. Microscope – the high power optical magnifier or the fiber optic microscope is one of the most important tools for the task. The purpose of this device is to generate a lead that allows you to inspect whether the cable is in place or not. The device is also helpful in detection of any cracks, breakages, or leakage in the cable, which can be the biggest source of data loss in the communication.
  2. Optical Power Measuring Device – this tool plays a role in measuring the efficiency of signal conducted through the fiber. The tool works by throwing light of high intensity through the entire length of the cable and then measuring the level of luminescence from the testing point to the end point of the cable and vice versa, thus providing a good indication about the strength of signal passing through the cable.
  3. Digital Continuity Source – This one device will complete the fiber optic testing equipment in your tool kit. The device comprises of integrated network of cables and is highly useful in measuring the signal efficiency. Apart from signal efficiency, the tool plays a role in measuring resistance within the cable, which again provides you the measure of how efficiently the device is working. Therefore, these tools become an essential part of the inspection kits used for this task.
Apart from these major tools, some other common tools that are a must to have in fiber optic tool kits are patch jumpers, wipes, handheld optical testing devices, to name a few. And, if you are ready to spend good amount of money for the same, then there are automated tool kits available in the market as well. So, the choice is entirely up to you.
