Planning to buy fiber optic tool kits, do consider these options

If we have a look at some of the technological developments in the past years, then fiber optic technology emerges as a revolutionary technology. It has brought a change in the ways of communication, and has made it possible to communicate over long distance without any problem. Not only high-end communication, but also it has made it possible to transfer huge amount of data over the internet as well.
Amidst all this, one factor that you need to be sure of is the fact that cleaning and inspection. For the task of fiber optic testing and cleaning, there are a number of options. Let us have a look at what are those –
  1. Optical cleaning tool kit – this is the simplest of all options available. It generally includes cleaning supplies and not the usual testing tools. Some of the components of this kit are optic grade canned air, foam swabs of 1.25mm and 2.5mm (used for cleaning of connectors, mating sleeves and adapters), alcohol wipes (pre-soaked generally), isopropyl alcohols, lint free Kimwipes, reel cleaners for FC, SC,LC, MTRJ and ST.
  2. Testing tool kit – If we have a look at the optic tool kits used for the purpose of inspection, then there is an option of manual as well as automated kits. Common inclusions of such kits are
    • Loss testers
    • Visual fault locators
    • Optical return loss testers
    • Power meters
    • Stripper jackets
    • Fiber strippers
Unlike the cleaning kits, these make sure that the fiber optic equipment is working efficiently and there is no data loss.
  3. Epoxy and Polish Connector Termination Tool Kit – these are considered as a traditional option for fiber optic inspection. These get the name because of their use in cleaning of epoxy optic connectors such as FC, SC, LC, and ST, to name a few. Apart from this, some other components of the kit are jacket and fiber stripper, Kevlar scissors, crimp and scribe tools, glass polish plates, rubber polish pads, inspection microscopes, heat cure ovens and other miscellaneous tools. So, you can have a look at the list of options that you can find in the market.
Apart from these three fiber optic tool kits, various options like fusion splicing tool kits, quick termination connector tool kits and some others are available in the market from which you can choose. However, before you actually make a choice, be sure that you know what your needs are? Whether you want to do cleaning or testing or both, you can make a choice as per your requirements.
